Should You Let The Future Happen, Or Cause It?

by Karl Loren
September 8, 2004

Now that Jean is over the dangers of death from cancer, the road ahead seems clear to me -- even if not all smooth!

The terrible truth about that conventional treatment that there never was much chance of cancer causing death, but there certainly is the grim reality that the radiation and chemotherapy WOULD cause death if she had not stopped when she did.

Even so, we have come to understand that there have been consequences of the decision to start conventional treatment, even if she stopped it before it had run its full course.

So, now that there is no trace of cancer, what is left of life for Jean?   That is the subject of this page.

Click here to read the remarkable conclusions that came along with the remarkable news that Jean has no trace of cancer as shown by the PET scan which is HERE.

Click here for the most recent travel on this path -- the treatment we are examining for solving the swallowing problem.

This is the page where I both predict and plan for the next twelve months, starting with what I expect and want from an appointment with a GI doctor on August 30th, to the end of about 12 months.  The terrible truth here is that too many people "let the future happen to them" while you really should be shaping your future, causatively.

I wrote about Jean's PET scan results, the following as SOME of the reason why we had such a great result with treating her cancer:

You could also conclude that Karl's brilliance at researching both conventional and alternative therapies, and probably his firmness at "managing" the insurance and medical systems -- these were the explanation.  How about Karl's "Protocol" for the continuing treatment of Jean?  Click here for Karl's prediction and plan for the next 12 months -- treatments for Jean and for himself (hip replacement, etc.) (source)

We had the appointment on August 30th with the GI doctor -- he was not very pleasant -- and only added grim news.  It looked like the "solution" to the swallowing problem was either of two terrible choices -- either have that long surgery, called "open chest surgery" to go in through the front of the body, up into the area of the esophagus and remove the left-over mass.

Or, put in a stent to keep the esophagus open permanently -- meaning that Jean would have to sleep sitting up and eat a very bland diet, like baby food.

The world changed with we visited the "second opinion" GI doctor at UCLA, on September 7, 2004.  We had heard about how great these doctors at UCLA were, and I can certainly testify to this one.

His "bedside manner" was like night-and-day different from practically any other doctor we had seen during the past six months -- we came away from there very much encouraged that the stent was not that unpleasant.

Jean had never had a history of heartburn, or acid reflux, and those would have been the dangers of having a permanently open esophagus -- "Sure," he said, "you will have to chew your food very well -- but you should have been doing that anyway.  You won't have to sleep in any special way -- just don't eat and expect to go to bed 15 minutes later."

We have the name of the highly-acclaimed specialist who does more of these stent procedures than practically anyone, and as soon as we can get the insurance approval (which can hardly be denied) Jean goes for the stent -- that is a couple hours, simple, non-dangerous procedure, and she should be able to eat the next day.

When?

It is now just a matter of scheduling -- so that part of Jean's future looks firm.

Then, I, Karl Loren, need my second hip replacement -- we have asked to have that scheduled for some time in October -- Jean will be in fine shape to help me recuperate.

Then, about a month of recuperation and both of us will repeat the purification program we each did many years ago.  We have each had so many drugs from chemotherapy and hip surgery that our bodies have accumulated a bunch of that stuff -- it does not go away without this purification program.

That takes us to about December -- and we expect to take a vacation to Hawaii or some other "reward for just being alive."

During this time I expect to be renovating a warehouse for the Vibrant Life expansion which has been going on -- and we expect to move into a new home sometime in 2005.  We have a busy time ahead of us.

My daughter, Maia Mulvena, has been running Vibrant Life for some years and is taking over more and more there.  I never do expect to retire, but I'll start spending my time on just research and writing -- leaving to others the operation of the business.

I have many other plans for our future, but the above are the simple basics -- if you ever find yourself having to travel some part of this journey -- I hope you can find hope here.
