Insurance Approvals -- Is This The End of the Journey?

September 26, 2004

Referenced From Here

If you have read much of this long journey -- Jean's Journey -- you know that besides the cancer, the biggest obstacle to health has been the so-called "health insurance" coverage.  The "treatment" itself may have been necessary for survival, but it was surely a mixed blessing since the treatment, itself, is now the cause of the major current health problem -- inability to swallow!

You think of the "health insurance" as "ensuring health?"  Not so!

HMOs have no way to go but to find ways to ration care!   Why not?  They get a fixed amount of money per patient, and patients generally always will have a desire for unlimited health care.  So, the HMOs have become very clever at finding ways to ration care. That is the only way they can make a profit and stay in business.

So, when you get approvals for medical care outside the usual boundaries of care, you are getting more than they intend.  It takes great skill and perserverence to do that.

Here are the two approvals Jean obtained, September 24, 2004, covering exactly what we asked for -- the HMO has found that it cannot ration care with us and get away with it.

These are images of the actual approvals -- not easily read, but part of the plan is to provide these "authorizations" in a form that is not easy to read or understand.

Here they are:

Here is the second approval, for surgery:
